The Corwin Genealogy of the late 1800's ** speculated ** that Matthias
Corwin was of Hungarian extraction, after a stopover of his ancestors for
several generations in England. It should be noted that a Hungarian, Matthias
Corwin, was an important figure in the history of Hungary. This theory,
although intriguing, has been debunked and is not true. (See The
Great Migeration, Anderson, Sanborn and Sanborn, NEHGS, 2001).
Immigration: By 1634, with wife Margaret and probably the two oldest children: John and Martha Corwin.
Spouse: Margaret Shatswell, born about
1599 in Sibbertofts, Northampton, England, date of death unknown, but living
in 1658, when Matthias wrote his will:
2) John Shatswell (Margaret’s older brother), in his 1647 will in Ipswich, Mass, left his "second-best stufe sute to my brother Curwin."
3) Matthias Corwin named his wife, Margaret, in his 1658 will (filed New Haven), matching the name of the wife of Matthew Curwen in the English lawsuit.
4) An uncommon name of Theophilus was given to a sibling of Margaret's in the 1627 lawsuit. Matthias and Margaret also named a son Theophilus, named in Matthias Corwin's will.

Chancery Proceedings
Residences: Ipswich, Mass abt 1634 > Southold, Long Island (with the Rev John Youngs group) 1640. Was in Ipswich in a document dated in 1634, and last seen there in a document dated 16 Jan 1639/40, showing that Mathew Curwin was listed as one of the inhabitants who owned an "unwrought" three year old bull. He was not on the 1641 list of Ipswich commoners and thus is thought to have migrated to Southold, Long Island between 16 Jan 1639/40 and 1641. (See The Great Migeration, Anderson, Sanborn and Sanborn, NEHGS, 2001.)
Death: Sept 1658
Estate/Will: See the Will of immigrant Matthias Corwin

Corwin Genealogy, Edward Tanjore Corwin, 1872. Note: this book is on-line, in its entirety, and searchable, at genealogylibrary.com. It can also be ordered from various booksellers referred to in Cyndi's List. It is also on micro-film at your local FHC Family History Center which you can rent for $3.75.
The 1872 work of Edward Tanjore Corwin was updated by DeForest J. Corwin in 1977. The title remains "The Corwin Genealogy" by Edward Tanjore Corwin, but adds... ' with new notes and appendices compiled by DeForest J. Corwin'.
The first part of the book is the original 1872 work of E.T.C. then, DeForest Corwin adds additional information. He adds correspondence with Corwins, as well.

Torrey appears confused about the wives of Abraham Osman, unless
there are further facts of which I am unaware. The following from
the Corwin Genealogy:
Rebecca is in the 1698 census with Abraham. The 1706 death shown by Torrey for the marriage he gives, to a Martha, is shown the Salmon Records only as "widow Osman.". There are two "widow Osmans" already in the 1698 census. Abraham didn't die till Oct 10, 1719, so he couldn't have had a widow by then.
I am showing Rebecca as Abraham Osman's only wife.

Sarah, (Hebrew,) a princess.
1 SARAH,3 (John, 1,) b. about 1660.
M. Jacob Osman, before 1690. He was b. about 1670, d.

Ch. Mary, Sarah, Eliza, Hester, Pinnina, Hannah, Peter,
Deborah, Almodan, Elizabeth.
His will in Liber 21, p. 108, N. Y. C. (See also Doc.
Hist. N. Y., i. 450, and Moore's Index of Southold, p. 105.)
_______________
I think Tanjore has melted two generations here. Salmon death records
shows:
1707 0203 Jacob Osmans wife Sarah
Yet, a 1755 will for a Jacob Osman refers to a wife Sarah as if
living. I believe that will is a Jacob-3 (ie of the third generation).
Further, the will of the Jacob, 1755, refers to four younger children,
as if underage, even the oldest son is referred to as underage...
a
bit hard to believe for Sarah Corwin, b 1660:
From ancestry.com: New York City Wills, 1754-1760
Page 108.--In the name of God, Amen, October 12, 1755. I, JACOB OSMAN,
of Southold, in Suffolk County, yeoman, being sick. I leave to my
beloved wife Sarah the use of all lands and buildings for her
comfortable support during the time she remains my widow. The
reversion of said lands and buildings I leave to my eldest son,
Peter
Osman, and he shall pay to his sister, Elizabeth Osman, œ3 when
the
said lands become his. My executors are to sell personal property
sufficient to pay debts, and the rest I leave to my wife for her
comfortable support and to dispose of at her discretion among my
4
younger children, Sarah, Deborah, Almodan, and Elizabeth Osman.
I make
my wife and my neighbor, John Clark, executors.
_______________
Further, only two names of children out of 6 of the Jacob Osman family
in the 1698 census are referred to in the 1755 will: Eliza/Elizabeeth
and Sarah, which could be repeat names in the next generation.
1698 CENSUS:
Osman:
Jacob, Sarah, Mary, Sarah junjr, Eliza, Hester, Pinnina, Hannah,
Martha widdw, Sarah
(307-316)
(ps who is the third Sarah here... a sister??]
______________
I suggest that Tanjore Corwin has melted two Jacob Osmans here, one
of
the second generation and another of the third. Who is he the son
of??
Another explanation for this set of facts might be another family
for Jacob-2,
later in life, from a second wife also named Sarah ??
