Matriarch to Two American Families |
Contrary to previous genealogies, Thomas Cooper II proved conclusively in a TAG article in 1989 that Henry Pierson was not the husband of Wibroe Griggs daughter, Mary Cooper, as had been previously thought, but instead was the child of Wibroe Griggs from a previous marrage, to William Pierson.
The identity of the wife of immigrant Henry Pierson, Mary _____, is unknown.
Thus, Wibroe Griggs is the matriarch to two immigrant American families of America: that of Henry Pierson (her son) and John Cooper (her second husband)

know the source for that information.

It is not certain if we are descended from Wibroe Griggs, as the
wife of John Cooper is not definitively proven to be a grandaughter of
Wibroe (through son John-2). She is suggested to be such a daughter by
Virginia Wines in "Pioneers of Riverhead Town." If we are descended from
her, we would have two lines of descent, as follows:

...... +Possible Child 1625 -This is the questionable connection - John Penny was referred to a brother-in-law by Samuel-3 Cooper (a known son of John-2 Cooper) in a document circa 1700. There are several ways that John Penny and Samuel-3 Cooper could have been brothers-in-law. There are are no other ways known for John Penny and Samuel Cooper to have been brothers-in-law, but the identity of Samuel Cooper's wife is unknown. For example, Samuel Cooper's wife may have been John Penny's sister (rather than Samuel Cooper's sister wife of John Penny), so this connection is far from certain:
