Rufus Ebenezer
Baldwin
"The Thirty-first senatorial district, which consists of Saline
and Ottawa counties, is represented by Rufus E. Baldwin, of Ada, Ottawa
county. He was born at Dover, Windham county, Vermont, and is now
sixty years of age.
He received a good common-school and academic education, and engaged
in teaching. In 1870 he removed to Kansas from Iowa, and, settling
upon a farm, has followed agricultural pursuits since that time.
Mr. Baldwin is married, and has one son and two daughters. In religion
he is not connected with any denomination, and politically he was a Republican
until he joined the Greenback party upon its organization. He then
went into the Union Labor party, and upon the birth of the People's party
was one of its earliest members. In 1892 his party nominated him
for the Senate, and his candidacy was endorsed by the Democratic Central
Committee of Saline county. He was elected by a plurality of 376
over the Republican candidate and a majority of 326 over all."

George
W. Bush
President
The Baldwin line of descent for President George W. Bush follows.
This is a maternal line. Thus we descendants of the Kansas Pioneer Henry
Gilbert Baldwin are cousins, via our common Baldwin ancestor, to George
W. Bush through his mother. We are related to his father, also a President
of the United States, in various other ways, but not through Henry Baldwin
of Woburn.

Oliver
Prescott
Revolutionary War General
Oliver Prescott is not the Baldwin here, his wife, Lydia Baldwin
is. His descendants will be of Baldwin blood.
"PRESCOTT, OLIVER, soldier, jurist, was born April 27, 1731, in Groton,
Mass. In 1778 he was appointed third major-general of militia in Massachusetts,
and in 1781 he became second major-general, but soon afterward he resigned.
From 1779 till his death he was judge of probate for Middlesex county.
He died Nov. 17, 1804, in Groton, Mass."

the Nineteenth Century, Herringshaw's Encyclopedia of American Biography.

An interesting Revolutionary War story involving General Prescott:
"Butler's "History of Groton," in Massachusetts, states that, "After
the departure of Col. Prescott's regiment of 'minute-men,' Mrs. David Wright
of Pepperell, Mrs. Job Shattuck of Groton, and the neighboring women, collected
at what is now Jewett's Bridge, over the Nashua, between Pepperell and
Groton, clothed in their absent husbands' apparel, and armed with muskets,
pitchforks, and such other weapons as they could find; and, having elected
Mrs. Wright their commander, resolutely determined that no foe to freedom,
foreign or domestic, should pass that bridge. For rumors were rife, that
the regulars were approaching; and frightful stories of slaughter flew
rapidly from place to place, and from house to house. Soon there appeared
one on horseback, supposed to be treasonably engaged in conveying intelligence
to the enemy. By the implicit command of Sergeant Wright, he was immediately
arrested, unhorsed, searched, and the treasonable correspondence found
concealed in his boots. He was detained prisoner, and sent to Oliver Prescott,
Esq., of Groton, and his despatches were sent to the Committee of Safety."

II: Women of the Revolution, page 56

I haven't found this fellow in our genealogy. I think he is of a
different line. But, thought I'd at least give him recognition on this
page: Abraham
Baldwin - involved in our Constitutional Convention.
The
Baldwin Page has a page dedicated to, and with small sketches of, famous
Baldwins. Other than Loammi Baldwin II, I haven't been able to place any
others as descendants of Henry of Woburn. Can you?
