This page of the History of Haddam, CT, shows photographs of the monument dedicated to the founders of Haddam, CT. Listed on the photograph showing the names of the founders are Gerrard and John Spencer. This site contains a page with biographial and genealogical data of Spencer and his oldest son, John.
 

Hartford

List of Hartford, CT settlers before 1640.  A Thomas and William Spencer are listed on this page of settlers to Hartford before 1640. This corresponds with information we have from the biographical sketches of William and Thomas Spencer, from the The Great Migration Begins which said that Thomas moved to Hartford in 1636 and William in 1639. (Note that Gerard didn't leave Mass for Conn until probably after 1650.)

Note that Garrard's wife surname is believed to be Hills, and there is a William Hills at this page. Also, Gerard Spencer's second wife's name is given as Whitbread and there is a Samuel Whitehead listed here.  There are other in-law surnames here, as well.

Gendex - The Spencer family is very popular on the internet. If you have a specific Spencer you are looking for, you may wish to go to Gendex to look for them. There are approximately 50 entries for Gerard, indicating maybe 50 separate Spencer pages. Many will take a "fork" down the road somewhere and only list one branch concerned with that particular web page.

The  Kelly/Spencer/Gifford/DePuy Genealogy

The Associated Families of  Gregory D. Maxfield and Laura Isela Flores Note: I believe this genealogy has a fairly serious error. It shows Gerrard Spencer, the father of the American Immigrants, marrying Joan Hill after the death of Alice Whitbread and having 8 more kids with the second wife, after he had already turned 50. Other genealogies have this wife and these kids attached to a cousin of Gerrard's, whose name was also Gerrard Spencer, who was descended from Thomas Spencer.  That link is here.

The John Arnold Page has a branch of Spencers with a GedPage database.This line seems to be coming from Samuel, son of Gerrard Spencer, the immigrant.

R.L. Spencer's Genweb Page is a Spencer page. His line were loyalists during the Revolution, but descendants did sprinkle back to the US after first going to Cape Breton.

Note that descendants of William Spencer are represented in this list of 60 through the name of Agnes Harris, his first wife. Spencertown, New York was founded by thirteen Spencer descendants. Among them were John and Phineas Spencer, grandsons of Gerard. It is just across the Connecticut line in New York.

A Genealogy page of John Spencer, one of the founders of Spencertown, New York. Note that John's wife had an in-law: Moses Cleveland, who may be related to, or actually be, the Cleveland for whom Cleveland, Ohio is named after. I seem to recall the Cleveland for whom Cleveland is named after was from that area of Connecticut in that general time-frame.
