The History of East Hampton reports that Samuel Sherill was born in Ireland of English parents. This is all I know of his origins.

Born: About 1649, in Ireland, of English parents (History of East Hampton)

Immigration:  The History of East Hampton reports the legend that Samuel Sherrill was a survivor of a shipwreck on the coast just off of East Hampton, Long Island. No date given, but he was reportedly married in East Hampton in 1676, so would be shortly before then.

Wife:  The History of East Hampton reports: "Nearly fifty years ago, David-5 Sherrill son of Recompense-4 told me a company of young ladies visited the [ship] wreck. On returning, one of them said she had seen there the handsomest man she ever saw. Another young lady replied, "you might marry him." She said, "I do not know but I would if I could." This came to the knowledge of the wrecked mariner and resulted in the acquaintance and marriage of the parties - H. P. Hedges. He married a Miss Parsons about 1676 and they had two children: Recompence-2 born about 1678 and Elizabeth-2, who married Hezekiah Miller."

Notes: Torrey shows a marriage to [____] Parsons, first born 1678, but the Parsons sketch in the same reference above, History of East Hampton is silent regarding who this is.. presumably a daughter of early East Hampton settler Samuel Parsons.

Death / Estate:  Torrey reports his death to be 1719. Estate details unknown to me.

In our family, Howell is the next generation.

"Jonathn Howel & Elesabth Sherry" were married on 26 Jan 1737/8 (124). She
was the daughter of Recompence and Margaret (Cady) (or Sarah (Parsons)
Sherrill, and was baptized at East Hampton, with several of her siblings, on
5 Apr 1719.

"Jonathn Howels Wife Elisth" died on 12 Nov 1779

Note that Jonathan Howell named a son: Recompence Howell. Recompence is not found elsewhere in the Howell tree, giving more support to this "Elesabeth Sherry" is the daughter of Recompence Sherrill of East Hampton.
