The Scudder Kinship Network
 

Elsewhere in these pages I have included information about the American families of immigrant Bridget (___), wife of first, Thomas Verry, and second, Edward Giles; as well as Betts, Lathrop and King immigrants. They are all tied into this interesting Scudder kinship network.

Bridget is almost certainly a granddaughter of Henry Scudder of Stroop, Kent, England (TAG 72:285-300, 1997).

Her American kin include those of her uncle, Thomas Scudder of Salem, Mass, and the sibling pair John and Elizabeth Scudder of Barnstable, Mass (likely children of her uncle John Scudder and thus her first cousins.)

John Scudder, son of Thomas of Salem, married into our King line. (This John should not be confused with his mother's first cousin John Scudder, of Barnstable, who married Hannah (___)). Elizabeth, of Barnstable, married Samuel Lathrop, a child of our ancestor John Lathrop of Barnstable, Mass.

So, we have an interesting tie to the Scudder family, and we are indeed of Scudder descent, although we don't know which child of Henry that Bridget is a daughter of. TAG 72:298-9, 1997 indicates she is likely from one of the daughters of Henry: Elizabeth, Bridget, Alice, or Martha Scudder.

She is mentioned in the will of her uncle, Henry Scudder, of 1651/2, along with Thomas Scudder and his family of Salem, Mass, and John and Elizabeth (Scudder) Lathrop of Barnstable, Mass (Elizabeth and Samuel Lathrop later moved to Norwich, Connecticut.)

Henry Scudder, d 1594-1595 is likely the son of a John Scudder, who died by October 18, 1584, when his widow Margaret deeded property at Sutton at Hone and Horton Kirby to her son Henry Scudder, carpenter; a William Scudder (likely brother) signed the "final concord" with her on "eighth day of St. Martin", Nov 19, 1585.
