Read the story about the ship owned by a Harvey Knowlton that was seized by the Canadian government !!  Captain Knowlton masterminded a scheme to recapture his ship and it worked!    A great story! I don't know which branch this Harvey is in. The Home Page for Gloucester history, where some of our Knowltons moved to, has a bunch of stories about fishing and Gloucester. Gloucester is the oldest fishing port on the east coast.

The Knowlton's were early settlers, circa 1640, to Ipswich, Massachusetts in Essex County. The East Haddam GenWeb Page. One branch of Knowltons, Hannah's brother, Thomas, moved to East Haddam, CT.

The Knowltons were early pioneers of Ipswich, Mass, founded in 1633, just three years after Winthrop's Fleet landed. The Community page for Ipswich, has a history of the town.

Martha's Place is a Balch page. I am listing this page here only for reference. There was a theory once propagated that Elizabeth Balch was the wife of William, son of Captain William. This theory has been discounted, but the wife has still not been identified.

The Sara Tamburrino Page carries the Abbe line. Samuel Abbe married Mary Knowlton, daughter of William and Elizabeth (Balch) Knowlton.
