Watertown, Mass - 1630's
John Child was probably born in England, about 1636. He came to be with his uncle, Ephraim Child, possibly returning with Ephraim Child when Ephraim once visited England. He is included in a network of aunts, uncles and cousins that migrated to America, all descended from English patriarch and matriarch Wolston and Ellen (Empson) Child.

Immigrated: Probably came to the New World with his uncle, Ephraim Child, as a small child, probably because of the deaths of his parents. Probably 1648. His uncle had been in the New World for sometime but it is known he visited England in this time period and returned. He was likely raised by his aunt and uncle in Watertown, Middlesex Co, Mass, from about the age of 12 on.
Spouses:
2) Mary Warren, on May 29, 1668, in Watertown, Mass. Mary was the daughter of Daniel Warren and Mary Barron, and grandaughter of immigrants John Warren and Ellis Barron.
They had four children in their short married life, when John Child died in 1676, age about 40. In spite of his early age and the coincidence of this year with King Philips' War, I've found no evidence he died from the war.
So, alone with four kids and one step-child (John's from his first
marriage), Mary married Nathaniel Fiske in 1677 and he became the childrens'
step-father. Mary died in 1734 and Nathaniel in 1735, after successfully
rearing this family and adding EIGHT more children of their own! We are
half cousins to descendants of those eight Fiske children.

Note: Known to be a nephew of Ephraim Child, this John Child was likely the son of Ephraim's brother Joshua. This is not positively proven, but by process of elimination of the other known brothers named in the will of John Bradshaw (Hyde/Child, Will of Bradshaw, John - 1606/1606, (TAG 63:17-28, 1988), "son of my sister Warren.") This Joshua probably died in England and John either accompanied or his uncle, or moved to join him after Ephraim was settled in the New World.
