John Budd is described in this article on the Davenport party to New Haven, as being "of St. Stephens Church, Coleman St., London" in his adulthood.

The Edward Hart Genealogy says he was from Rye, England; which led to the naming of Rye, New York. I see a Rye in Sussex, which I presume to be this place, although there may be more than one.

Rye, Conn and Rye, New York Are the Same Place

I have seen references to some works of the first John Budd in Rye, Conn and then also, Rye, New York. From the Edward Hart Genealogy, I learn: "Lieut John Budd in 1660 took his family to Hastings (Rye) Connecticut, now New York where he was the largest land owner in Westchester County." Thus, the confusion about Rye, Conn and Rye, New York, is answered. They were the same place.

Hortons in America, along with other sources, says Benjamin Horton, **son** of immigrant Barnabas Horton, married Ann Budd, implying she was a daughter of John-1 Budd. This daughter is not named in the will of John-1 Budd. Torrey doesn't list that marriage and shows this Benjamin Horton marrying widow Ann (___) Tucker.

The McLaurin Horton Genealogy, 1990, says there is an "undated" document that is an agreement between Ann, wife of Benjamin Horton, and John Budd on the distribution of their father's estate. McLaurin doesn't give a source for where this document is. I havn't found it in Southold records, perhaps it is in Rye records.

Torrey shows a Benjamin Horton of the third generation married the Ann-3 Budd, b 1677, presumably the daughter of John-2 Budd in the 1680's. This may be a confusion with reports of the earlier marriage... or a different union altogether. The Edward Hart Genealogy say Ann Budd, daughter of John Budd, Jr, b 1667, married Benjamin Horton, a grandson of Barnabas Horton.
