I have not located the immigrant of our Alger line.  The earliest known American ancestor is Moses Alger of probably New York. There is a New England family of Alger. We don't know if our Alger ancestors are part of that family, or a later immigrant.

Moses Alger:   born about 1770. Lived in possibly Oneida Co, New York, per 1830 census entry for Sylvester; Resnalaerville, Albany Co, New York per family tradition of the birthplace for Sylvester. Wife: Sarah Barrett.

Born:   Family records: June 14, 1798, Resnalaerville, Albany Co, New York (Ancestral File: Abt 1806, Perrysburg, Cattaraugas, New York)

Spouse:    Harriet Polly Monroe, born November 10, 1803, in Johnstown, Montgomery Co, New York, per family records, nothing further known of her origins. She died January 11, 1889, in Mansfield, Richland Co, Ohio; age 86.
 

Census:
 
1830:  A Sylvester Alger appears in Augusta Co, Oneida Co, New York; pg 117. In the same county is an Allen Alger family.

1840:  Not found. But, there is a William Alger in the Ashland Twp, Richland Co, Ohio census. (This part of Richland Co became Ashland Co in 1850).

1850:  Sylvester Alger in Ashland Twp, Ashland Co, Ohio (next door to Richland Co). Other Algers in Richland County are Charles (two entries).
 

Death:    August 08, 1885, in Mansfield, Richland Co, Ohio

Family: Had nine children from 1823-1840.
