The John Williams Family
The Deerfield French/Indian
Raid
And Their Most Interesting
Genealogical Connections
|
The Williams Family and the
Deerfield Indian Raid, 1704
The Rev. John Williams lost his wife and two children in the raid,
plus another child stayed with the Indians and married one. He was one
of the focal points of the raid. The Deerfield
page says:
"The English, in Boston, held Jean-Baptiste Guyon, whom they termed
a pirate. The French considered him a naval officer and needed a hostage
of standing for exchange. So they specifically targetted Rev. John Williams
for this purpose."
